Mathema-tics and societal challenges

Global warming, floods and droughts, species invasions and extinctions, and the spread of pollution are just some examples of phenomena that are extremely difficult to grasp. The environmental and societal challenges we face today are numerous and demand large-scale scientific strategies that draw on multiple approaches. In this context, mathematics has a vital role to play through high-quality multidisciplinary research.

Connecting expertise

Connec-ting expertise

The iMPT and the Mathematics in interactions research programme (PEPR Maths-Vives) have developed a platform to support researchers working at the intersection of mathematics and life, environmental and human sciences.

News

The iMPT promotes dialogue both within the research community and with society by sharing announcements of events, academic job opportunities, activities and public resources.

Articles on mathematics and the oceans

  • CNRS

  • Articles

CNRS Mathématiques is launching a new series of articles for the general public on the theme of mathematics and the oceans. The third article focuses on marine biodiversity.

4 missions for the iMPT

The iMPT brings research communities together, funds interdisciplinary research projects, accelerates knowledge transfer and promotes science to the general public, with the aim of strengthening and structuring interactions between mathematics and other scientific disciplines.

Call for projects

The iMPT runs calls for projects to identify and support interdisciplinary research projects addressing major scientific, societal and environmental challenges. These calls are launched once a year during the winter.

Resources

The iMPT provides a selection of lecture notes, websites, videos, podcasts, educational material for school workshops and other resources relating to mathematics and planet Earth for both researchers and the general public.

Partners

The iMPT scientific interest consortium (GIS) is overseen by ten partner institutions involved in mathematics and life, Earth and human sciences.
